REVIEW:  RAYMOND CHARDONNAY  Napa Valley  2009
              89 Points Wine Spectator

I had the pleasure to taste this wine at a grand tasting event 2 weeks ago.  What a pleasant surprise for such an affordable wine at only $15.00.  Usually I am reluctant to try CA Chards under the fifteen dollar price range because of my experience tasting countless others that did not produce at that price level.  Too often the wines are either over oaked, unbalanced, or just lacking any depth whatsoever.
The wine opens with fruit forward aromas of cantaloupe and pear mingled with stone fruits, orange zest, and a hint of Jasmine. This chardonnay is full-bodied but with an elegant softness for an inexpensive chard. It has flavors of white peach and vanillin, that is well structured and balanced with a long, toasty, smooth finish. A versatile wine that pairs well with turkey with gravy, roast chicken, grilled salmon, steamed sea bass, as well as butternut squash soup, corn chowder, and spring green salads.  Best with Medium Cheddar Cheeses, also spanish Mahon and Gouda.
